Use audio plugins on your mic in Zoom, Teams and Meet

Guide · macOS 14+

In short

  1. Install Patchcord, choose a microphone and a plugin.
  2. In Zoom, Teams or Meet, select Patchcord Mic as your microphone.
  3. Done – every later plugin or microphone change happens inside Patchcord, with nothing to reconfigure in the meeting app.

1. Install Patchcord

Download the package and open it. This sets up the virtual microphone “Patchcord Mic”; your audio output drops out briefly while it does. Patchcord then launches from the Applications folder and sits in the menu bar.

2. Choose a plugin

Patchcord takes any Audio Unit effect plugin. For meetings, a noise suppressor is worth it – our favorite is Antinode Clear (paid, trial available), with Noise Repellent and Noise Suppression for Voice (RNNoise) as free alternatives. Pick it under “Plugin” in the Patchcord menu – open its UI straight from the menu, settings save automatically.

3. Select it in your meeting app

Zoom, Teams or Google Meet: in the app's audio settings, choose Patchcord Mic as your microphone, exactly like any other mic. The conferencing app won't notice when you later switch the real input device in Patchcord (e.g. headset → AirPods) – only the input side reconnects, Patchcord Mic stays active throughout.

4. Test it

Switch on “Monitor” in Patchcord to hear the finished signal on headphones or another output, or just start a test call and check the noise suppression does what you want. The latency readout in the menu shows the total delay from microphone to meeting.

More control with Pro

Patchcord Pro gives every microphone its own 5-band EQ with a live spectrum, and the Patchcord Camera keeps your video lip-synced to the processed audio. See pricing.
